The
transition into a new school year is a fun and exciting occasion for many
students. It’s another chance to learn and grow. But it can also be a painful
time for students facing a new year without someone they love. Grief can
drastically impact the way children learn, interact with teachers and peers,
and function each day. Although we cannot eliminate the pain of grief, you can
partner with the Shepherd’s Cove grief support program to teach students how to
cope with their grief in positive ways and help them find hope and fulfillment in
life after loss.
Perhaps
it is a sibling that will no longer make the trip to school with them each
morning or a parent who cannot kiss them goodbye. Maybe it is a grandparent
that is no longer on this Earth to share in the excitement of each annual
milestone. Maybe they are missing a dear friend on the playground or a teammate
on the field.
Whatever
the circumstances and nature of the loss, hundreds of children and teens right here in our local communities will deal with grief from a lost
loved one this year. Last school year, Shepherd’s Cove served students in more
than 65 schools in Marshall, Etowah, DeKalb, and Jackson counties through the
in-school grief support program.
Because
of local individuals like you, more than 400 area children this school year
will receive guidance, hope, and reassurance that they are not alone on the
difficult grief journey. These services are offered free of charge to
participants. We never ask for a dime from the families or schools we serve. It’s
all possible thanks to generous community support.
