About The Team

  • Destiny Cox is a current political fundraiser and the former Executive Assistant to the Editor-at -Large for The Hill, a leading bi-partisan news source focused on politics, policy, business, and international relations based in Washington, DC. Prior to working at The Hill, Destiny served as the Director of Business Development for Elan Strategies, a minority-owned Washington, DC based fundraising firm.Destiny brings a high level of analytical and problem solving abilities to help arrive at creative solutions with a focus on core business goals. Cox has experience in both public and private sector accounting, having successfully readied a consortium of small oil field related companies for merger and initial public offering.  In addition, she co-authored the annual financial report for the Texas General Land Office, and participated in the valuation and management process of various investment funds within the Texas General Land Office and the Texas Permanent School Fund portfolio, and developed strategies that increased the agency’s delinquent debt recovery by 29%In addition, Cox has experience working in both front and back-end business development with Austin and DC local-area startups, working to develop new strategic partnerships and guide long-term objectives to meet business needs and requirements. Destiny is an Emily’s List Ignite Change Fellow, alumna of the African American Board Leadership Institute, and member of the International Black Women’s Public Policy Institute. Destiny is also a Summa Cum Laude graduate in Accounting and Management from the University of Houston.  A native Texan, Destiny has volunteered with the Austin Women’s Investing Group and also served as an Instructor and Ambassador for the Financial Literacy Coalition of Central Texas.
  • Jessica DeLoach is a political and communications strategist who regularly provides analysis and commentary for national and international media outlets. 

    Prior to being highlighted in the Huffington Post as one of the top young television pundits in the country and dubbed the "most seasoned millennial Democrat in American broadcast punditry," she engaged in on-air debates and provided weekly political analysis for her home state's top-rated news networks. From writing regular columns and participating in regular podcast appearances aired by her local NPR affiliates, Jessica has grown her reach to national and international networks that include the BBC, Fox News, Newsmax, OANN, TRT World, and many others. For the past fourteen years, Jessica has assisted a variety of candidates, clients, and organizations with their political communications strategies and has managed statewide awareness campaigns for corporations and nonprofit agencies, provided critical, strategic guidance to political candidates and nonprofit leaders, and has led the external affairs of a national network of pro-growth, progressive elected officials while also serving as the organization’s political director. Upon leaving this post, Jessica served as the chief-of-staff to Chasten Buttigieg during his husband's bid for the Democratic presidential nomination.She also has substantial experience working on local, statewide, and federal campaigns in a variety of capacities as well as having previously overseen the political strategy and communications for a statewide Democratic party. Jessica earned a triple major in Political Science, Theater Arts, and Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and a Masters in Public Service from the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service. She is currently working toward a second MA in Political Communications at American University.
  • Maya Jones is a Congressional Senate Staffer from Atlanta, Georgia who serves immigrant, defense, veterans, and international communities.Her prior position was working with a voter registration campaign to register voters of color across the United States. She is passionate about voter protection and education because every citizen should be able to choose their elected officials.  Maya graduated from Wake Forest University with a degree in Politics and International Affairs and History. While at Wake Forest, Maya worked served as the international students Resident Advisor, a Dean of Students fellow, and a Board of investigators and advisors member. There she represented other students and supported their academic success. In her spare time, Maya serves as the Vice-President of with the Arlington Young Democrats, the Arlington Democrats Black Caucus Chair, and the Arlington Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Economic Development and Labor Co-Chair. She is passionate about supporting her local community in Virginia and advancing equity and inclusion.
  • Rachele S.D. Willis is currently a second-year doctoral student studying public policy at Georgetown University. She has acquired her first Master of Arts degree from Howard University, majoring in public policy and administration with a minor in American government. She attained her second and third Masters of Professional Studies degrees from George Washington University, majoring in political management with a concentration on global politics and strategic public relations. She achieved her Bachelor of arts from California State University of Fullerton (CSUF) in 2016 as a triple major in political science, public administration, and American Studies. She was selected for the outstanding senior award for 2016 and was on the dean's list. She has recently held employment positions with U.S. House Representatives, National Institute of Health, Potomac Institute for Policy Studies, Office of Personnel Management, and Homeland Security.Willis has also held executive positions such as  Senator of George Washington University, Vice President of the Black Graduate Association, Vice President of Graduate School of Political Management, the Graduate Political Science Association secretary at Howard University, president of the organization Afro – Ethnic student Association at the California State University of Fullerton, student government Lobby Corps member, has advocated in Sacramento CA state capitol on behalf of all twenty-three California State University as a delegate for California State Student Association and on behalf of the American Civil Liberties Union. She continuously seeks to engage her colleagues in ways that will develop thinking for the human condition and thought. She is a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Honor Society for political science majors, and has previously worked on Capitol Hill. Her goal is to help boost her knowledge in her future workforce. She is gaining tools to access self-actualization and function in a role of leadership.

The Women & Politics Institute provides practical and academic training to women that encourages them to become involved in the political process and facilitates research by faculty and students that enhances our understanding of the challenges and opportunities women face in the political arena.

Only with your help can we offer more courses, enroll more students, train more young women to run for office, conduct more research, convene more special events, and ensure that women have a seat at all of the tables where the most important decisions are made.
