The continuing need of rural farmers is demand-access to water through water-storage and water-catchment systems. Cornerstone will acquire and deliver a 800-gallon water tank to farmers who meet need-based criteria.

Thank you to the amazing donors and supporters who helped to fund Donnette's water tank and catchment system.
Knowing she would be able to store water gave Donnette the confidence to expand her small farm. Equipped with only a machete, a garden fork, and hoe, Donnette cut and pulled the existing dense bush to create a pathway to sustainability. After clearing the land, she began planting potatoes. While the potatoes need little water, they will add much-needed nutrients to the soil, so other crops can be planted in the coming months. Donnette recently harvested half of her crop and we are thrilled to report that not only will this loving grandmother have more food to put on her table, but she has seen an increase in income. Donnette's potatoes were sold locally and will be used to feed others throughout the community.
Meet Donnette. Donette has a small farm behind her home where she grows root vegetables, pineapple, raises chickens for eggs, goats, and a pig. Donnette and her two grandchildren depend on this farm to feed them. Additional crops are brought to a local market and sold.
Even though she has little, Donnette spreads love and kindness every day. She is always giving any extra food to friends, neighbors and strangers. If you stop by her house to say hello, she will give you a hot plate of food: yam, dumpling, boiled banana, potato and callaloo. Your donation supports the following for Donnette:
Irrigation system materials: $465.85
Installation labor: $190
800-Gallon Water tank: $215.75
Water tank delivery: $178
Irrigation best practices training: $41.15
Program Management: $83.00
Administrative Cost: $14.25
Total: $1,188.00

Thanks to the generosity of our donors and encouragement of supporters, Donnette's water tank was delivered earlier this week and the catchment system installed today. Tell your friends and family how you have supported this wonderful outcome for small-scale farming in Jamaica. This measure of water-security will provide stability for her family and community in St. Ann.
