Sociology gives you a depth of understanding as to how various institutions—such as class, race, gender, and religion—affect you and the society in which we live.
Our students represent a broad variety of backgrounds and interests. They tend to be curious about the societal structures that shape human behavior, and have a strong desire to discover, explore and understand the social nature of the world. They want to build a strong foundation for a wide variety of possible careers.
Students have multiple opportunities to engage in hands-on projects and fieldwork, gaining translatable skills that are valued by a broad range of employers.
All students with an interest in Sociology are encouraged to join WOKE, IU's Sociology Club. WOKE aims both to encourage dialogue between students who take Sociology classes and to advocate for social change and diversity. In addition, many Sociology majors are invited to join Bloomington's chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta - the International Sociology Honor Society.
Your tax-deductible gift to the Undergraduate Activities in Sociology fund will be used to support programs that directly benefit undergraduate students which are related to education and outreach activities, with the goal of promoting interest in sociology.
