My name is True Koroi (they/he) and I am reaching out to garner your support as I run for the Mx. Black Trans International title at the annual Black Trans International Pageant that occurs in alignment with the Black Trans Advocacy Conference (BTAC) in Dallas, Texas. This pageant will be happening on April 24th, 2025 and is being put on by the Black Trans International Pageantry System (BTIPS).
My journey that has led me to enter my first ever pageant was sparked from my first experience at BTAC in 2023. BTAC introduced pageantry to me as an accessible opportunity, when I got to witness the crowning of Mx.Black Trans International 2023. Mx. Trinitee Wilson is the first title holder for a royalty position dedicated to a Black Gender Non-Conforming Transgender person within the13 years of the Black Trans International Pageant history.
I am a qualified and strong contestant for this position due to my competitiveness in the Kiki Ballroom scene and my dedication to community building efforts. I have and will continue to work alongside youth, Black and Indigenous folks, Queer and Trans led organizations, and land based practitioners. All while continuing to deepen my knowledge in Disability Justice, Restorative Justice and sociopolitical movement history.
My platform this year will be “Breaking Cycles: Disrupting Homelessness Amongst Black Trans Youth”. A sad reality is that my city, Tacoma,WA, like any other major city has been impacted by gentrification and displacement, including our youth programs. In a time where our Black and Trans youth are becoming more vulnerable to disproportionate health outcomes, it is important that we advocate and invest into youth housing, youth leadership and skill development, and youth led programming with a focus on our marginalized Black Trans youth.
All donations and giving levels will go directly to the participating costs of being a contestant in the 2025 Black Trans International Pageant. Including the compensation of a Black consultant, a Black stylist, and a Black fashion designer. In the spirit of transparency the budget is open to be viewed on request. My hope is that this will just be the beginning of future relationship building opportunities for the both of us.
