Hi Everyone!
My name is Terry Lou and I am currently working towards earning my Graduate degree in Conservation and Community Engagement. I am enrolled at Miami University through Project Dragonfly and as part of my program I have the incredible opportunity to travel to Thailand to continue my education. This excursion will allow me to spend time learning with researchers in Khao Yai National Park practicing nature observations and exploring the incredible forest area, embracing my new environment. From there, I will have the honor of visiting the Wat Sukato Buddhist monastery where I will practice mindfulness, participate with the local community in farming and spiritual practices. During that time I will be focusing on how Buddhist principals can not only be related conservation work but utilized to strengthen efforts back at home. The final part of my trip will be spent working the Bring the Elephants Home, an organization dedicated to reducing human-elephant conflict through farming of soup ingredients!
For those that know me, you will know that nature, wildlife, the environment, mindfulness, empathy and community have always been at the core of who I am. As a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, I know both the value and the challenges associated with foreign travel as well as how life altering genuinely connecting with other cultures can be. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity and while my personal savings have covered some of the expenses, I would be extremely grateful for any financial assistance sent my way. I know that this experience will have profound impact on my future and I look forward to sharing the journey and experience through social media so be sure to follow along.
For those interested in learning more about what I will be learning and experience on this adventure you can watch this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3-zvM43RS0) starting at 37:37 and it will outline some what I will be doing in Thailand.
Thank you in advance for any contribution you are able to make!
