Home is Where the Start
is. Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia has a vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. We believe in this vision because we know
shelter is about more than four walls and a roof. A safe, affordable home
changes lives… especially the lives of the children moving into our Habitat
homes.
A home helps children stay healthier.
A home helps children feel secure.
A home helps children do better in school, and
that helps them do better in life. A
home helps families achieve financial stability and reach for new
horizons.
POTENTIAL Homeowner surveys reveal a 79% high school graduation rate among
Habitat-NCG families’ children compared to a graduation rate of 63.4% among
economically disadvantaged students in GA. Many of our children go on to
receive college scholarships and to complete their college degrees at local
community colleges and four-year colleges.
EDUCATION 60% of Habitat-NCG families said their
children’s performance in school improved after moving into their home. Education even carries over to parents in the
family, with 45.5% of them reporting that they have tried to further
their own education since becoming a Habitat homeowner.
OPPORTUNITY A decent home is a new beginning with a bright future ahead. Just
ask Habitat
Homeowner, Victor Rodriguez-Mora, who recently became a U.S. citizen!
In Victor's words, "I feel so
blessed... God has provided us
with everything that we could ever wish for -- a house, a family, awesome
friends, and an American dream come true. I only dreamed of coming to America
as a boy. But I never thought that this is the life I would have.”
STABILITY Many of our
children faced changing schools each year, moving from place to place every few
months, and unsafe or crowded living conditions prior to moving into their
Habitat homes. More stability for their
children is often one of the things for which our homeowners are most grateful.
“I’m looking most forward to having a
stable home where my children will never have to switch schools or lose friends
again. A stable, safe home that is all
ours!” - Melanie Palffy
When we envision a community with
decent, affordable housing for all, we see the faces of those who will benefit
most… the children of Cherokee, Dawson, Forsyth, and North Fulton Counties who
will grow up safer, happier, and healthier in the Habitat houses you help build.
With your help we can offer more of our
Habitat children a “hand up,” not a “hand out” by helping their families find
safe, affordable houses to call a home. Help make this vision a reality by donating
