Did you know that only 2% of scientists and engineers are Black women and of the over 5 million tech jobs held by women last year, the number of Black and Hispanic professionals in the industry were in the single digits? Your generous donation can help us grow this number.
Girls STEM Institute (GSI) is a transformative space that empowers girls and young women of color, historically marginalized in STEM fields, to live their best life and embrace their innate brilliance through STEM exploration. As STEM learners, they are empowered to use STEM as a tool for personal and social change. GSI also serves as counter space, a community of support that not only addresses the academic challenges associated with STEM but also intentionally and directly dissolves the stigmas related to minority communities and STEM more broadly. Through our socially transformative curricular approach, we address issues of inequity, racism, gender bias, and other stigmas as social constructs that can be overcome and dismantled.
GSI is unique in that we focus on the whole person through the integration of STEM learning with overall wellness and well-being. We believe in fully embracing each girl and young woman and allowing her to be her authentic self.
Family and community engagement are other significant components of GSI. These components aim to support parent/caregivers as they advocate on behalf of their daughters.
