D tha Doll is a formerly incarcerated Black trans woman from Florida. Two years ago, she was released from incarceration and took a bus to SF in order to receive housing and support, as well as access a larger community of LGBTQIA+ folks. During this time, D has been forced to deal with so much, without a great amount of support, and was able to find stable housing at an SRO in San Francisco. A few months ago, D was attacked at this SRO by an employee and defended herself: however, law enforcement took the side of the assailant & threw her in jail for a month.
After being unlawfully held in jail for a month, she was told she could no longer return to her former living situation and was left houseless, with none of her possessions including clothes, precious items, a laptop, etc. Since that day several months ago, D has been crowdfunding to get her hotels and Airbnbs until she can find permanent, stable housing. A GoFundMe was created for D several months ago to help cover the expenses of hotels / temporary shelters which have run low, and this Fundly is dedicated to her monthly expenses (the primary of which is rent).
As we follow many leads for housing in the Bay Area, we want to ensure that D has the funds for move-in costs and rent. No one should be unhoused during a pandemic, and no one should have to be put in this position for defending themselves. Thank you for your time and energy reading this: it means the world! If you have any leads on housing for D in the Bay Area, including contacts or leads on subsidized housing, please contact us.
