Starting after a Hurricane

More Info

We're trying to start a healthy new life after 6 years of working with FEMA. We lost everything due to Hurricane Florence in 2018, and since then, we've lost even more because of mold.

We won't have anything to furnish the new home we have received from FEMA, and due to a disability, we need a bathtub as well.

If you could find it in your heart to help us, it would be much appreciated, and we will be very grateful.

On September 14th of 2018 Hurricane Florence made landfall in Eastern North Carolina causing immense rainfall and flooding.

We suffered from roof/ceiling damage and a broken water main, so we fixed the water main and paid a large utility bill for it and thought after the roof was tarped we would be in the clear for a little bit of time. We were wrong in a week we noticed a smell but had no more leaks.

October of 2018 a FEMA inspector arrived and it was then noticed that was mold growing in the damaged area of the ceiling, even though it had been dry.

We made note of the mold and ceiling/roof damage and got a estimate for repair however the county thought the house had become to dangerous to be occupied and arranged for us to stay at a hotel until we could live safely.

We stayed in a hotel at the county's request from November of 2018 until the end of December of 2018, at this point we thought we would get help with some repairs to move back into our home, we did not receive help for that.

With no other choice at the beginning of January 2019 we moved into a old unoccupied house that had sat for 10 years and was used for storage, while staying in contact with FEMA.

With a large amount of work we managed to live in the house fairly well until a year had passed and mold started to be seen, as we did not expect to stay long we just tried to manage.

As we made patches to repair general issues in the house or noticed more mold growing year by year as we have been here.

In the 6 1/2 years that have passed now from roof leaks and high humidity causing mold everything that we have left is at risk of contaminating all of our belongings that were saved.
