More Info

Hello! My name is Alexis Turner. I recently have been accepted into the Bard International and Globalization Affairs Program in New York City, where I have a chance to spend a semester working a full time internship somewhere such as the Mayor's Office, CNN, Aid for AIDS etc. I would be spending my time helping businesses that give aid across the world, which is something I am extremely passionate about. I also spend my nights taking classes in Manhattan at Bard College discussing international affairs and business. I got their highest Global Studies Award of $26,113 to pay for my tuition, however, housing is still very expensive.

My father is retiring this year and my mother and I have several medical problems - I was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes earlier this year, then right after I had a car crash on my way to a concert where I crushed my chest in. My hospital bill was well over $20,000. My mother has had a heart attack and two strokes, along with several surgeries. When my father retires, the only income that will be coming into our house will be my income from my work studies & his retirement, thus coming up with $8000 is impossible.

I go to Converse College as a Mathematics major and politics/computer science minor, and I am PURELY on scholarship. This means that many of the study abroad opportunities that came across I could never afford.

I did not leave the state of South Carolina until I was 16 years old, and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. With this, I could further my career in business and hopefully be able to finally give back to everyone who has supported me this far, including my parents, who have been nonstop supporters of me despite the lack of funds.

I hate doing these things, but I am in a tough situation with my medical bills and my father without a job. Any donation would be appreciated, and if you cannot give anything, I would love for you to spread the word.
