Dear Friend of Side
by Side Kids,
As the end of 2014
quickly approaches, we’re reminded of the countless blessings we’ve received
throughout the year. During the 2013-2014 school year, Side by Side Kids (SBSK)
served 122 students at two elementary schools. An overwhelming majority—97%—fall into the
category of economically disadvantaged.
For these students, it means that they are full of hope for a brighter
future. It’s long been said that a child
raised in a safe and caring environment has a greater chance of succeeding in
school, and of one day exiting poverty into a life of economic stability. Investing in our children today is a gift that
will build a better future for us all.
For the past 6 years,
SBSK has continued to meet the needs of the elementary students and their
families living in the St. Johns Community. The SBSK afterschool program provides a
multitude of supports, from homework help to learning about Jesus Christ. Our students are learning daily, and 95% are
advancing to the next grade. According
to our partners (Teachers) at the Austin Independent School District, our
students became more interested in reading (85%) and more willing to learn
throughout the year (86%). Equally, the
students’ parents report that Side by Side Kids helped influenced their family’s
spirituality (96%) and their children’s respectfulness of themselves and others
(95%).
I personally want to thank
them, and you, for believing in and supporting our cause—the children of St.
Johns!
In addition, we are
proud of the work of our staff and countless volunteers that help lift on
behalf of the less fortunate. As we prepare
for a new year, we remain more committed than ever to bringing more children to
Christ. Thanks to your support, we will
continue to offer our services free-of-charge to those children who need our
help.
