My name is Erin Emelio, and I am a senior English major at the University of Maryland. I am traveling to Kiburura, Uganda on Thursday, April 11, along with a team to prepare for the launch of a nonprofit organization. We are partnering with a pastor in the village to explore what services would be beneficial. We aim to provide community development and micro finance services, along with job creation through sustainable farming.
During this trip, the team will be building a rainwater collection system alongside several members of the community. Buying the materials and building the system with members of the community will enable them to maintain the system. The team will also be locating and evaluating the condition of previously installed wells to determine which are no longer functional and in need of repair.
I will be spending much of my time at a local secondary school (high school). I am bringing books, microscopes, and other school supplies. I am excited about building relationships with students and teachers, and looking forward to learning how our organization can partner with the school long-term.
I still need $1,200 to cover the cost of my flight and in country expenses. I would appreciate your support - every bit helps!
