HOLY COW! Yes, that's the best opening line I can come up with. #scarfbombjax #dosomething #ilovejax #igersjax

As a community, we have provided warmth to more than 750 people, so far, this winter. THANK YOU for making that possible. And if you didn't see the fine print, that's more than we were able to do in the first two years combined.

Today we took scarves to a food bank and baby closet to help those folks stay a little warmer, too. I am so honored to have you in my village of caring people. THANK YOU.

More Info

Inspired by images in other cities, in winter 2013-2014 we make a few fleece scarves, and left them around the city in areas where people experiencing homelessness are often stuck out in the cold. We are happy to accept donations of fleece, yarn, finished products, & of course money to help us in our 3rd year. Volunteers and businesses have donated money, time, and materials to help make winter a little warmer around Jacksonville. In our second year, because of volunteer efforts we were able to add scarves & hats to add to the warmth. For winter 2015-2016 we want to continue those efforts, and are looking for folks to donate to this year's event as well. We can use financial donations, volunteers to help make scarves from fleece & yarn, as well as folks to help distribute them into areas where folks are homeless. THANK YOU!

Update #7

The great wait is over. We've been passing out scarves along and along as the sporadic and crazy temperatures have been dropping. While I'm grateful for milder weather for the folks who are experiencing homelessness, myself and our volunteers have been anxious for the chance to do something MORE!

We've had close to 40 volunteers making scarves, hats, and even a few gloves through the last 6 months, and more than a dozen helping to distribute them in areas where we have a higher concentration of folks who are stuck out in the cold.

We've even met a few interesting folks along the way, like Steve, who wasn't homeless until a few years back, he was a retired military veteran, and I quote, was "living the American Dream, I had a wife, two story house, cars, and a dog." He went on to share that his wife died suddenly, and he had a nervous breakdown as a result, His parents came to console him and in the process they both died, and he was just devastated. He poured himself into a situation he had not been able to get out of. He's now at the New Life Center, and on his way back. And now, he'll be a little warmer, thanks to you.

What an amazing journey you've taken with us and we are so very grateful for your support, love, encouragement, and financial contributions.

THANK YOU!

Update #6

We are well on our way. We made 98 fleece scarves yesterday to add to the knitted items from our amazing volunteers. With made, donated, and purchased items, this batch that brings us to 173 scarves, 141 hats, 56 pairs of gloves, and 10 blankets. As we get closer to the weather changing, we will be ready! THANK YOU for your support! With all the donations we've received we'll be able to provide at least 240 sets with hats, scarves, and gloves! If you'd like to make a donation, we welcome any additional contributions to help us do more.

Update #4

The makers are making for #ScarfBombJax! On Sunday, I met up with our Orange Park Knitting Circle - a total of 10 beautiful people were there working on Hats, Scarves, and Mittens for the project.

HUGE Thanks to Stephanie M. for destashing and donating 5 BOXES of Yarn to the cause, and to Connie, Keira, Kathy, and Lisa & Daughter for braving the rain to pick up yarn.

We're cooking now! THANK YOU EVERYONE!

Update #3

What a crazy couple of weeks. WOW!

We continue to receive funds, meaning we can help more folks. Aside from financial contributions, many are donating their time, too. We have close to a dozen volunteer makers who are crafting hats and gloves. A volunteer who's donating BOXES of yarn. And one who'e even spearheaded a knitting circle to make specifically for this project. AND will be teaching the skill to folks who want to learn then, too. (Join the Volunteer page for up to date details on the knitting circle - https://www.facebook.com/groups/1160981077251091/ )

By the end of next week we'll have 3 Yarn Collection Locations. Currently there is one setup at Argyle Chiropractic. As soon as the other boxes are in, I'll share those locations, too.

I really can't fathom all this. I'm am so blessed and even better, hundreds more folks will be warmer this winter. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Update #1

On Thursday I was in tears when I received a message from Camille Gregg who wanted to know our campaign goal ... so she could make a donation in honor of her parents to help us pass our fundraising goal ! Thanks to this most recent donation, we have now passed our fundraising goal, and can start getting the materials together needed to prepare for winter. We have budgeted $5 per set to provide a scarf, hat, and set of gloves per person - meaning at this time we can provide warmth for at least 229 folks - so far. As donations continue to come in, we'll continue to expand the numbers for folks we're able to help.

THANK YOU EVERYONE! I am so moved by your love and support!
