I started Ring the Bell four years ago when I learned that a dear friend of mine and his family had never been on the Polar Express. It was because it was too stressful for them due to the medical condition of their son and his physical appearance. It was that day that I was determined to give every kid and their family an opportunity to get on that train! We load up the buses in the afternoon, drive three hours to the Grand Canyon Railway in Williams, Arizona and then board the train for the North Pole. They read the story, the kids are in pajamas, and they pass out cookies and hot chocolate. After they reach the North Pole, Santa boards the train and hands out bells to each and every child.
I have established relationships at Phoenix Children's Hospital and at Southwest Craniofacial Center to help identify families that would qualify and appreciate a trip like this for their family. It's one little way to help the families do something special and "normal" around the holidays after enduring so much! Most of the expense items are donated - the buses are the only recurring expense. So, I appreciate all of your support making these dreams come true!
