Phil Janowicz was the first to enter the CD39 congressional race, and did so with the desire to serve his community. As a teacher, Phil wanted to help students in real ways beyond the classroom. He rolled up his sleeves, and went to work. Energized volunteers, local elected officials, and
community leaders across the district embraced Phil's grassroots campaign. There was no event too small,
no meeting unimportant, and no fired-up group of local activists he
didn’t respond to. After Rep Royce's retirement created new
complications under California’s jungle primary system and the prospect
existed that too many Democratic candidates could shut us out entirely
from the ballot in November, Phil made the extremely difficult decision March 14th to withdraw from the race to help pave the way for a Democratic candidate making it past the
primary to flip the seat in November.
Phil had experienced a huge outpouring of community support and
encouragement across the district, along with our assurance of future support. He spent the weeks after announcing his withdrawal from the race helping find employment for his team, then began his own job search, and is already delivering on his promise to stay engaged and help elect great Democrats up and down the ballot in November through continuing to serve the community.
Let's actualize OUR appreciation to Phil by helping him retire the remainder of his campaign debt prior to the FEC deadline of July 2nd!
