I’m Alejandra —writer, visual artist, feminist, and person who believes in improbable things. Like chosen family. Like the futures we can build together.
For the past three years, I’ve been walking toward the reality of solo parenthood. Not rushing—just slowly untangling the knots of trauma, and becoming the person and the parent I want to be.
This year, one day after the inauguration of a new era of fascism in the West, I chose a donor and purchased sperm. That felt like a milestone worth naming. A commitment to the future, even before knowing exactly how it would unfold. Faith. Determined not to give up on the future in the midst of the current terrors abounding.
Now I’m preparing for insemination—in Mexico City, where I’ve found affirming care, and where the next part of this journey will take place. I’ll be there for three weeks, moving between clinic visits, quiet walks, and hopefully, rest. This fundraiser will help defray the costs I’ve already paid, and support the travel, lodging, and medical expenses still ahead.
I’m raising $10,000 to make this dream—this weird, wondrous, wholly intentional act of creation—possible.
What your support will help cover:
Sperm (already purchased): $4,000
IUI (intrauterine insemination) + clinic costs: $2,000–$3,000
Roundtrip travel to/from Mexico City + lodging (3 weeks): ~$3,000
Medications, blood work, shipping, unexpected curveballs: ~$1,000
Becoming a solo parent is something I’ve come to slowly, like wading into cold water. But the want has been steady. The political climate sharpens the urgency. It’s getting harder for people like me to access care that affirms our wholeness, harder to build lives that don’t fit inside someone else’s template.
So I’m asking for help. Not because I love asking. (I don’t.) But because I believe in mutuality. In community. In the strange grace of people showing up for each other’s beginnings.
For me, becoming a parent is about building something tender and defiant in a world that often demands armor. It’s about choosing family as a creative act.

If you can give, thank you. If you can share this with your people, thank you. If all you can do is hold this moment with me—thank you.
