The Junior League of Portland has renewed our focus on ending domestic violence towards women and children, and we recognize that this goal begins in part with empowering community advocates who support basic education initiatives. The Children's Book Bank engages with community organizations to gather, clean and gift books to children and families.
We believe that giving children a bundle of books—not just one or two—will increase the likelihood that they will find a book to spark a love of reading and learning. The goal is simple: ensure preschool children are raised with books, enhance the bond between parents and children through reading, and support improved education for all students, higher literacy/graduation rates, and stronger communities. With the help of our nonprofit partnerships and community connections, we think we find great titles for about $5/book.
