To celebrate my 30th birthday, I'm raising money to help support a new primary care health clinic started by my good friend Lupe in the community of Cedro Galán in Nicaragua!

Lupe saw a need in her community for an affordable healthcare option, since other private clinics in the area are expensive and people are hesitant to go to the free public hospitals due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Lupe decided to take matters into her own hands and launched a small clinic out of her former house. She partners with a local doctor who provides consults at a discounted rate of less than $3 per person (less than half the fee charged by other private clinics in the area). She also works with her husband, who is a pharmacist, to offer discounted medications to any patients who are prescribed them.

Nicaragua is the 2nd poorest country in the Western hemisphere, with close to 15% of the population living with an income below $3.2 per person per day. Nicaragua also continues to have the second highest childhood mortality rate in Central America, and 22% of children under the age of 5 suffer from chronic malnutrition. With only has 1 doctor for every 2,700 people, as well as the lowest per capita health expenditure in Central America, clinics like the one started by Lupe are crucial to ensure that the population has access to quality, affordable health care.

Please consider making a donation to help support this important initiative! Thank you so much!
