As we come to the end of a period like no other in our history, I am inspired by the dedication of our staff, students, parents, siblings, and extended family members who have all stepped up in unimaginable ways. Thanks to the support of our generous donors, we have been weathering this storm and began the 2021-2022 school year stronger and even better equipped to achieve our mission of offering high quality educational options to children with autism and their families living across New York City.
NYC Autism Charter Schools supports 72 students between our two campuses in East Harlem and the South Bronx. Our highly trained and dedicated team continues to adhere to our ongoing commitment: helping students learn functional skills that prepare them for life and allow them to live with as much dignity and independence as possible and supporting families as they navigate the often difficult path forward. This year, that has meant hundreds of hours teaching students to tolerate wearing masks, to wash their hands, to endure medical checks, to use technology more fluently in new and different ways, and to better understand the world around them.
This year, the need for support has been made more urgent by the toll of COVID-19, which has had a disproportionate impact within our local communities. In response to the pandemic, NYC Autism Charter Schools reallocated its resources to ensure that every student and staff member has the technology they need to minimize disruptions to learning, as well as the supplies and supports required to keep students and staff safe, healthy, and able to learn and teach. Every dollar we receive during this #GivingTuesday campaign will allow us to sustain and grow our services so that we can continue to provide our students and their families – now and into the future - with the education and support they deserve.
