The officers of the Newport Police and Newport FOP are working with the Newport Primary Family Resource Center by raising money to support our community's children.
The officers requested to participate in what has been labeled as "No Shave November". This where officer's pay with their own money a donation level to grow a Mustache, Goatee, or Beard. The department has grooming standards that are relaxed during this time to show support of our officers helping the community. This event happens in November usually and ends on the last day of the month.
Through their own donations the officers have collected almost $1,200 dollars so far for this great program. Since starting, we have been asked by several people if they could donate? Well, why not!!
So we have started this fundraiser to allow those who want to support us and the kids, to easily do so.
You can donate any amount you want to as every bit helps. We have, however, created a goal to collect $1,000 dollars by the end of November 2018! Can you help us reach this goal?
You will be able to donate until November 30th 2018 at 4pm EST. We will then take the total donations collected by everyone and give them to the Family Resource Center program! We will set a date later to do an "official" donation at the school.
More about the Newport Primary School Family Resource Center:
The
Newport Primary School Family Resource Center (FRC) is one of the
surviving pieces of the 1990 Kentucky Education Reform Act (KERA), at which
time the Kentucky Department of Education and the Cabinet for Health and Family
Services collaborated to provide FRC funding to schools (that wrote a grant
proposal) with more than 20% of its students on free lunch.
The grant covers one salaried person who works year around in and with the school. Whats left over each year (approximately $16,000) dollars goes to getting supplies, food for family fun nights, child care supplies, incentives for parents to come to monthly parenting classes, books for give to the children and stock the library located near the school flagpole.
This program also provides underwear, socks, coats, pants, eyeglasses, Christmas gifts, hats & gloves, and other emergency necessities for families. This program supports kids in the Primary, Intermediate, and High School.
All money donated (to include yearly grant money) is solely dedicated to this program and the children!
When our officers reached out to Molly Wesley, who runs this program, it was clear that our donation would be much needed here! We are excited to partner up and help a great program in our city!
