Miles for Pete

Join us as Zach takes on the incredible challenge of a 50-mile ultramarathon this September to support Pete and Nicole's family as they face Pete's battle with stage 4 cancer.

Pete and Nicole have been happily married for 25 years and are dedicated parents to four wonderful kids—JC, who is living and working in Cedar City; Michael, starting his third year at WVU; Jillian, who will be joining her brother in West Virginia this fall; and Lilly, who is beginning her studies at UNLV. Pete has spent years inspiring students as a math teacher at Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic School, and Nicole, also a dedicated math and 8th-grade teacher, now cares for patients at a local medical clinic.

Their lives were upended about a month ago when Pete went in for a chest x-ray to address a persistent cough. The results were heartbreaking—a 9-millimeter mass led to a diagnosis of stage 4 cancer. Amidst the uncertainty, hope appeared with Pete's acceptance into a promising clinical trial at MD Anderson in Houston. However, this requires travel to Texas every three weeks for the next three years—a significant financial strain that they were not prepared for.

Zach has worked closely with Nicole for the past year and was deeply moved by their situation. He will be running the ultramarathon not just to challenge himself, but to rally our community around Pete and Nicole.
