More Info

Who is Meso Creso?

Meso Creso is a Washington DC-based, cross-cultural arts collective that cultivates creativity without boundaries. Named for Mesopotamia's Fertile Crescent -- often considered the cradle of civilization -- Meso Creso fuses whimsy and artistry with DC's cultural diversity and social consciousness.

Dreams becoming reality...

Our vision is a unique event that highlights world music and culture, with elements of creative and healing arts, social activism, and sustainability incorporated through workshops, performances, installations, and events. Through this event, we hope to create safe, inclusive spaces for ourselves and our guests. Join us!

Uniquely Meso

Imagine what you already know and love about Meso Creso - loving community, international cultural diversity, highly crafted art installations, joyful whistles and hand claps, and a DJ lineup that represents the rich mix of its community - but on a bigger scale. This is the Meso Creso Festival.

World Beats

Two music stages will provide round the clock booty shaking beats. While the emphasis will be on global beats, we will have something for everyone. Hear More

Cross-Cultural Art Spaces

Community arts projects throughout the space. (Inquire about receiving an art grant.)

Workshops and Speakers

Teach something + learn something. (Look out for workshop applications.)

Performances and Fire Arts

Expert fire dancers will light up the night sky. Tantalizing performers will amaze and inspire.

Sacred Space

A sanctuary area to recenter, refocus and reinvigorate.

Sustainability

Sick of all the trash that festivals leave behind? So are we! This event will have a complete sustainability plan with recycling, composting, and more.

What will the money be used for?

All funds raised will be used to cover the upfront costs of the festival. We intend for this to be a one-time effort where we raise enough through fundraising and ticket sales to reinvest in the festival in the coming years.

Artwork of Gratitude

The names of all of our festival supporters will be included in an art piece that will be prominently displayed at the event. We want to recognize everyone who has helped us and allow them to join us at the festival in a special way.

Meso Creso Festival FAQ

Financials & Fundraising

Why is Meso Creso raising $20,000 up front, won't ticket sales cover expenses?

As we have always been a non-profit collective driven by volunteers, Meso Creso does not have the capital to cover the costs that arise in the months leading up to the festival. Instead of approaching a backer who would need a financial return on investment, we decided to launch a community fundraising campaign to help meet our capital needs.

By using funds raised to cover the majority of this year's festival expenses, we'll be able to reinvest ticket revenue in next year’s festival while offering affordable tickets to festival guests. This way, we only have to fundraise once. For more information on how the funds raised will be spent, feel free to view our budget summary at http://bit.ly/MesoFestBudget.

Can you really raise $20,000?

You already know about our crowdfunding campaign, and we hope that you, the folks who love what we’re about, will chip in with a modest (or not so modest) donation via that campaign. We’re also cooking up an early March fundraising event and members of the Meso Creso community are planning smaller scale fundraisers like luaus, dinner parties, and yoga classes- all in support of the festival. We believe these activities combined will get us to our goal.

What will the money be used for for? Is anyone making a profit?

All of the money raised will go to support the festival; no one makes any profit, and the vast majority of the work will be done on a volunteer basis, out of a genuine desire to create an exciting and beautiful experience. The money raised for the festival will not be used for other Meso Creso activities or events.

What happens if you don't meet your goal?

Our first milestone is to raise $7,500 by March 31st and our second is to close in on $20,000 by late summer. While we feel confident that we’ll meet our overall goal, we do plan to regroup and revision the event if we miss our first target. If at any point in the campaign we come to a decision that the festival is not viable, all donors will be offered a full refund. But with your help and support, we feel confident that we’ll meet our goal and be able to deliver the festival as it’s envisioned today.

Still have questions?  Reach out to us at [email protected] and we’ll get back to you.

Update #15

Now that the frigid blustery months are behind us, Meso Creso’s flying caravan is finally coming out of the depths of its winter slumber and landing in a local park in DC - our own secret Spring Oasis. Awaiting you will be sparkling shishas, yoga and acro classes, coffee and tea, Turkish delights and other treats, coloring and crafts, and day-time dancing with the DJs you love. It’ll be a place for friends, old and new, to take time and be intentional with each other - to simply just enjoy a Spring day in our city. Come and get a taste of what awaits you at Nomadico.

IMPORTANT: Because of the limited capacity of our outdoor venue -- a secret park located in NW DC -- we are not releasing the address or location at this time. Only ticket-holders will receive the location information the day before the event. Tickets are $13 with proceeds going directly to the artists, performers and to cover event costs. We anticipate selling out and so please do not forget to purchase a ticket ahead of time!

Please buy your tickets here: http://mesocresospring2016.bpt.me/

We've still got over $2,000 of matching funds available, and we'd be grateful if you'd help of spread the word. We need you -- dancers, artists, architects, merchants, troubadours, drummers, artisans, teachers and nomads -- to be a part of the dream team.

Update #12

Greetings Nomadico Backers-

We had a big audacious goal set for us when we launched this campaign in January. We needed to raise at least $7,500 by March 31st to move forward with our plans for Nomadico as originally envisioned. We're thrilled to announce that we've met and exceeded that goal and to date we've raised over $12,250 thanks to you!

We could not be more grateful to you for your support. Thank you, thank you to all our backers and to the Nomadico fundraising team for getting us this far. We can't wait to see what the coming months will bring and we feel more confident now that ever before that we can meet our 20k total fundraising goal! If you haven't made a donation yet and want to help make Nomadico a reality... join us as a festival backer and make a donation today! And don't forget to share this campaign with friends and family who love making magic!

For some fun this weekend, join the Meso Creso flying caravan as we break through the atmosphere and look down onto earth with the next installment of 1,001 Beats - A Long Way From Home.

As we near Cosmonautics Day, Meso Creso is paying homage to Yuri Gagarin, the first human to journey into outer space and orbit the Earth.

A Long Way From Home will feature a special DJ set from guests Empresarios + Meso Creso resident DJ's.

RSVP to the FB event and share with your friends!

Thanks to you we are on our way...have a friend who may want to join our flying caravan? Share this page with them and invite them to hop on board!

Update #10

Great ideas are made possible by a community that believes they are possible. The support of our festival backers is both humbling and energizing and we want to thank you for joining our caravan. You may be wondering, where are we headed?

For years, Meso Creso’s flying caravan has roamed from one place to another, traveling through the ancient and modern, through new cultural landscapes and old global soundscapes. Borderless and boundaryless, our caravan is landing soon in an entirely unlikely destination. We invite you to join us, - to find our way to this place together - to weave our cultural tapestries into a modern tradition.

We call this place Nomadico.

What can you expect in a place that is neither here nor there?
Nomadico is a city of nomads, a unique place that highlights world music and culture, with elements of creative and healing arts, social activism, and sustainability incorporated through workshops, performances, installations, and events.

Nomadico is everything you love about Meso Creso - loving community, roving hookah lounges, highly crafted art installations, joyful whistles and hand claps, and a DJ lineup that represents the rich cultural mix of its community - but on a bigger scale.

We are now less than $2,000 away from being 60% funded thanks to all of you! Can you share our story with your friends? Every contribution counts.

A story within a story.
A discovery within a journey.
A destination within our reach.

Update #7

Happy Friday!

This just in: we are only $2,000 away from our March 31st goal of $7,500! We achieved this thanks to all of you who've donated and/or shared the campaign with your networks.

How great would it be to get to 50% funded by the end of March? Given where we are today, it's possible with your help.

Step One:
Join us on March 5th at Zeba in Columbia Heights for Meso Creso Presents: Prelude and invite your friends. There will be dancing, a hookah lounge, tasty treats, incredible decor and the exclusive release of the festival name and theme! All this can be yours for $5 minimum at the door (but pay what you can to support the cause!)

Step Two:
Share this campaign with a friend, or 10! If each of our backers got one person to make a $35 donation we'd raise $2,000 towards our goal.

With your help, we can easily surpass the $10,000 mark and the inaugural Meso Creso festival will be 50% funded!

This just in! We’re excited to announce a new giving level we think you might like. Backers who give or bump their donations to $200 will receive a ticket to the festival in addition to some great Meso Creso swag! We’re so excited to share this journey with you and we want to make sure you, our backers, are there with us. Don’t wait, this gift is limited to the first 50 backers to give at the $200 level.

This new donation level is in response to a few questions we've received about donations and fundraising. If you have questions yourself, check out our handy FAQ, and if your questions aren't answered there feel free to reach out to us at [email protected].

Of course, you may not be able to give a $200 donation, but still want to contribute. We understand! We have tons of great giving levels starting at just $10, all of which come with a great thank you gift from swag, to more experiential gifts like custom Meso Creso mixtapes and DJ lessons. Donations of all sizes will help us meet our goal. You also have the option of giving just $10 now, and then adding to your donation at your own schedule to reach a higher giving level for a great thank you!

Come be bold with us! We’re committed to this event and planning is underway; a site contract is being signed, and exciting details for what’s in store are coming this spring. But we can’t do it without you. Hop over to https://fundly.com/meso-creso-festival and make a donation today and stay tuned for our next updates on the festival theme and a fun March fundraising event!

Meso Creso Festival FAQ | Financials & Fundraising

Why is Meso Creso raising $20,000 up front, won't ticket sales cover our expenses?

Folks who believe in the magic that happens when you bring together diverse cross sections of our community, artists of all stripes, DJs and DIYers, the mad and the meticulous and cultivate creativity without boundaries.
