After successfully funding eighteen grants for our conferences in New York and Paris, we're excited to announce travel awards for “Oceanic Melville,” the Fourteenth International Melville Society Conference. These awards will defray the cost of attendance for scholars of limited means, like contingent faculty, graduate students, independent scholars, and scholars who are not otherwise able to afford international travel.
Our hope is that these awards will expand and diversify participation in the Melville Society. Recruiting a new generation of members is essential to the Society’s future, and these grants play a significant role in that work. This year we hope to raise at least $3600, which would enable us to offer eight $400 grants, along with waived registration fees.
