In 2019, my life was turned upside down after a misdiagnosis of pneumonia led to a series of medical events that forever changed my future. For months, I endured excruciating pain, unable to find relief despite multiple doctor visits and tests. Eventually, I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis, but the true cause of my suffering remained a mystery. The pain grew unbearable, and I had to return to the hospital, where an epidural and several spinal injections failed to provide lasting relief.
A CT scan revealed something far worse: nodules in my lungs, leading to more tests, more specialists, and a growing sense of dread. A neurologist found a spot on my spine, and I was urgently transferred to Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. It was there that I was diagnosed with sepsis, meningitis, and a possible bone infection. Emergency surgery was performed to remove an abscess pressing on my spine, but the procedure left me paralyzed from the waist down. To make matters worse, I suffered renal failure during the surgery, and I was told that I would need dialysis for the rest of my life.
After 12 days in a coma, I woke to a new reality. The doctors had given me less than a 10% chance of survival, yet here I am, still fighting. But with my survival came a harsh new reality—one of daily challenges and lifelong medical needs. I now rely on medical catheters to manage bodily functions, an ongoing cost that has placed an incredible financial burden on my family. Without insurance, these medical supplies cost hundreds to thousands of dollars every few months, draining my family’s savings and preventing us from enjoying the simple things in life.
As a father and grandfather, it breaks my heart to see the toll this has taken on my loved ones. I wish I could be there for my children and grandchildren without the weight of these financial struggles. But I am here, alive, and still able to cherish every moment with my family. The joy of holding my granddaughter, hearing her laugh, and watching my children grow is a blessing I do not take for granted.
Now, I humbly turn to you. I ask for your support in this journey. The financial burden of my medical care and the necessary catheters is something that my family and I cannot bear alone. Your donations will go directly toward easing this burden, helping me continue my fight and providing relief to my loved ones.
I am incredibly grateful for any support you can provide, whether through a donation, a prayer, or simply sharing my story with others. With your help, I can continue to focus on healing and enjoying the precious time I have with my family. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness, generosity, and prayers.
May you feel the same grace and strength I am finding each day. Your support means more than words can express.
