Update #1

Hello all! As we bring our "Med Students Supporting Afghan Refugees" Campaign to a close, we wanted to give you all a very heartfelt thank you for your support throughout this 3-week initiative.

With your help, we raised ~$11,200 to provide Afghan Refugee Families with long-term resettlement and relief as they transition into their new lives here in the United States. This includes supplies (beds, pillows, blankets, food, clothing, baby cribs/formula, school supplies, etc.) and long-term support (transportation, housing, school enrollment in K-12 public schools, access to social services such as Medicaid and Social Security, etc.).

Thanks to the success of our Campaign, AMBOSS has partnered with us and has agreed to award 50 students in Afghanistan with free AMBOSS subscriptions to aid them in their studies.

Additionally, our medical students collected new/gently-used clothing items and hand-written welcome letters, all of which will be distributed to Afghan Refugee Families across the United States, with hopes that this gives them a warm welcome to their new lives here.

Over the next few weeks, we will work directly with the Lutheran Social Services, Miry’s List, and AMBOSS in order to get pictures/videos/logistics of how our initiative helped make a difference for the people of Afghanistan. We will email all donors and supporters these pictures/videos/logistics, as well as receipts of our donations to ensure we provide you all with the utmost transparency.

Thank you all so much again for doing your part to make the world a better place - you should all be incredibly proud of yourselves.

More Info

The people of Afghanistan have suffered from over 40 years of war. Recent global events, coupled with the COVID-19 pandemic, have led to a humanitarian crisis with Afghan refugees displaced around the world. Currently, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) estimates that nearly 6 million Afghans have been driven out of their homes due to conflict, violence and poverty.

Currently, the Lutheran Social Services are supporting Afghan Refugees by securing housing for families, transporting families from the airport to their homes, providing a 1-week supply of culturally appropriate food & groceries, enrolling children in K-12 public schools and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, providing families with health screenings, and helping families apply for social services (Medicaid, Social Security, etc.)

In addition to the Lutheran Social Services, Miry's List is a non-profit organization that supports Afghan Refugees by providing critical items for families, including bedding, bed frames, pillows, cribs, clothing, shoes, hygiene products, cleaning & laundry products, baby & childcare supplies, kitchen supplies, bathroom & household supplies, and school supplies.

As humanitarians, it is our duty to support the people of Afghanistan during their greatest time of need.  With your contribution, we will aid the Lutheran Social Services and Miry's List in their efforts to support Afghan Refugees as they transition into their new lives in the United States.

Do your part to make the world a better place - help us with our Med Students Supporting Afghan Refugees Initiative!
