Mayberry Book Drive Winter 2016

As many of you know, I've been a read aloud and literacy volunteer at Mayberry Elementary school in the Echo Park neighborhood for the past 16 years.  I have been working with two amazing teachers, Ms. McCarty and Ms. Lew for all of that time and it is a joy and an honor to be in their classrooms every week.  The children are curious, engaged and terrific.  I read books in both classrooms and we take a long time because we pull down maps, go on tangents to unlock the text and have pretty amazingly deep discussions.  Mayberry is a Title One school.  Many  of the children here do not have home libraries.  It is my mission to get them books to put on their shelves at home.  In this curious time we are living, reading and a love of reading is essential.  Please help me give the gift of reading to these remarkable children.  Thank you!
