‘Masakhane,’ a South African word meaning “let us build together”
At the Masakhane Center, we aim to build a sex-positive, inclusive, and comprehensive sexuality education curriculum and program.
All of Masakhane’s educators have found gaps in the current sex ed we’ve received and experienced the effects of misinformation, misrepresentation, or even withholding of facts in favor of societally accepted biases. We’ve taken on the task, led by our fearless, bright, and compassionate founder Stephanie Franklin, of educating as many youth as we can in Newark. We offer sexuality education which includes topics like consent and healthy relationships as well as gender expression, sexual orientation, and healthy sex practices.
However, we provide these workshops (and hope to continue offering our workshops) on a sliding scale to the organizations and schools which request them. We want the information we’re teaching to be as accessible as possible and this includes financial accessibility. So here’s the deal…. We need your help!
We need your support (both in sharing this and in donations, whichever you can give!) We would love to continue offering our services to whomever we can, not limited by their budgets. We also would love to be able to purchase products for demonstration (sex toys, menstrual products, contraceptives, etc) as well as products to distribute (condoms, tampons, pads..). All of the funds will go directly to these materials, and none will go to overhead.
Your contribution, no matter how small, would go directly to providing Newark youth with accurate and inclusive sexuality information and reproductive health products.
We are a 501(c)(3) organization, and your donations are tax-deductible.
