There are many, many folks out there who
have helped and supported our crews throughout this Mālama Honua voyage
and over the last 44 years. One special community that has supported us
for more than 40 years is the wonderful group of families from Tautira,
Tahiti.
They adopted Hōkūleʻa and her crew members back in 1976, and
have continued to care for Hōkūleʻa, those crew members and every crew
member who has come to Tautira since, including those sailing in on
Hikianalia. Tautira is truly our home in Tahiti, and the Tautira
families are integral members of our ʻohana waʻa. Many of you have been
fortunate to have been hosted and cared for by this kind and respectful
community. For those who have not yet had the privilege, you can ask
anyone who has: the Tautira community is awesome! It is a truly
enriching experience to be in Tautira.
And now we are truly happy to be able to host these wonderful families for the homecoming. Lodging has been taken care of for these families by one crew member, so we would like to reimburse her as much
as possible, not including the portion that she has already removed
from the total for her own donation. Any assistance that you can offer, financially or otherwise, would be much appreciated.
Mahalo nui loa in advance for any kōkua you can share, especially for our very special Tautira ʻOhana.
E mālama pono,
