Media School service-learning projects give students the opportunity to travel and apply their media, communication and reporting skills. Throughout the school year, students will have various opportunities to engage in service learning, both right here in Bloomington and within communities across the country and globe. These programs allow students to create media projects that positively contribute to partnering organizations and communities.
Your gift will support Media School students' participation in service-learning programming such as:
- Alternative Break Program: one-week extracurricular travel programs to work with international nonprofit partners in Costa Rica, Guatemala and beyond.
- National Parks Service Learning Program: short-term opportunities to develop media projects on behalf of partnering National Parks around the United States.
- Stories of Peace: an annual project that pairs teams of Media School students with local nonprofit partners in the Bloomington community to develop media projects that commemorate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
- Other service-engaged programming as needs arise.
Students from The Media School just returned from the third National Park service-learning trip of the 2018-2019 academic year. Since 2017, the program has sent 40 students to six National Park Service sites to complete more than 25 short videos to help promote the Parks’ mission and services. Your donation will help us keep trips like these affordable for students and continue building student leadership roles within the program.
Together we can fund experiences that inspire students, provide academic and professional direction, and cultivate an ethic of civic engagement.
