This year marks
the 50 anniversary of Keep Oklahoma Beautiful. From its earliest
days steadfast supporters of this organization and its mission to enhance the
natural beauty of our great state have guided us to success. In recognition of
this milestone and all that they have contributed to the success and longevity
of Keep Oklahoma Beautiful, we will present the Pendleton Wood Award to
Governor and Mrs. Geoarge & Donna Nigh and posthumously to Governor and
Mrs. Henry & Shirley Bellmon at a
50th anniversary reception celebration on April 21, 2015.
Named in memory
of a longtime supporter and advocate for Keep Oklahoma Beautiful, this award
recognizes those individuals whose vision, dedication, and support nurtured
this organization in its early years and ensured that it would succeed and
serve the citizens of our state.
In its first two
decades, Keep Oklahoma Beautiful was only able to survive because of the direct
support of the Governor’s Office, their support during those crucial, early
years allowed KOB to build the solid foundation on which we’ve grown. Today,
KOB serves more communities around our state than ever before, and much of the
credit for that success goes to our early supporters.
Keep Oklahoma Beautiful (KOB) is a statewide nonprofit
organization founded in 1965. KOB has undergone a number of incarnations
throughout the years, changing with the times, while always working to achieve
its mission.
Today's KOB operates on a modest budget funded by
contributions, grants and performance contracts with corporate partners and
state agencies. KOB's volunteer board of directors guides our programs, which
target grassroots efforts of Oklahomans involved with community and
environmental improvement.
