This fund is to support graduating seniors pursing higher education from Middletown High School in honor of my late mother. She always stressed the importance of education & being present in the community.

It is truly an honor to announce the inaugural Karen L. Barbour Memorial Scholarship at Middletown High School. We will be selecting at least one student pursuing higher education to receive a cash scholarship. The student will be required to complete an application including a resume, letter of recommendation, & an essay.
For those unfamiliar with my family’s story, my late mother passed away when I was a freshman in high school. She always stressed the importance of education and being present in the community. She was a business owner, active in our church, PTA , sporting events, and overall super mom/wife to her husband & four children. She left a lasting impression on everyone she met and that smile always lit up the room.
A scholarship fund not only honors her memory but allows us to pay it forward. I personally was not the best student in high school and coming from a single parent household, resources were not as plentiful. I applied to & received numerous scholarships which allowed me to pursue an education at CCSU where I majored in Finance. That opportunity allowed me to discover my love for traveling through studying abroad in China, achieve multiple internships, & graduate Cum Laude with a full time job in my field. Fast forward to 2025, I proudly work as a Portfolio Manager at one of the largest investment banks in the world. This wouldn’t have been possible without the support I received.
