Dot has decided to something amazing in her first year of retirement. In March 2014, Dot will be going to Bangladesh with Partners for World Health (PWH). PWH is teaming up with Eminence, working in Bangladesh on bettering the lives of the people. Dot will be assigned to one of three medical sites “in the field” for 11 days. As a Registered Nurse (RN), Dot will work alongside the RNs there, mentoring them on Evidence-based and other best practices. Dot will teach them how to treat patients using the supplies available in Bangladesh, not necessarily the treatments used in the United States.
Here are the three possible sites: Jamalpur is in the northern Dhaka Division; Satkhira is south, in Khulna Division; and Tangail is south of Jamalpur, in Dhaka Division. Jamalpur and Satkhira have 250 bed hospitals where some of the RNs will be assigned. In Tangail, there is a brothel where the gynocology doctors and nurse practicioners will be assigned. The women in the brothel have never been screened for any gynocological disorders, so they will bring diagnostic equipment and supplies to assist with the screenings.
Dot will be presenting information on hypertension (high Blood pressure), diabetes, cervical cancer, breast cancer, HIV, handwashing, communication between shifts, wound care, IV starting…things we take for granted here in the United States.
Please support Dot in her mission to use her nursing skills to help the people of Bangladesh.
