Hello,
My name is Brooke Mann and
I am a 15 year old sophomore at Northeast Metro Tech and a member of the Boston
Church of Christ Teen Ministry. I come from a background of adversity and
through those short 15 years of my life I have overcame a lot. I believe I can use
my personal experience to become a community leader in my local, and perhaps
global community someday. I already think globally and act locally with various
service organizations in and around Boston, but I want to transcend my regional
experience with a trip abroad.
This upcoming July, I will have the incredible
opportunity to serve for 12 days in the island of Jamaica. My heart has been
really impacted by the amount of service they need, but especially by the lack
of love the less fortunate children receive. In Kingston, Jamaica, where I will
be serving, children are introduced to violence and gangs at a young age. It
continues to motivate me because in Boston, teenagers are exposed to so much unnecessary
violence. That motivation is going towards my drive to impact the lives of children
in need.
The trip to Jamaica will begin on July 19 and I will not
arrive back in the U.S until the 30. I will spend that time at the
2016 HOPE Youth Corps site mainly focused on the National Children’s Home. HOPE
Youth Corps is a faith-based, service learning program designed for high school
and college students. According to their website ()
the Jamaica site is one of the most successful veteran sites with many years of
experience, and a consistently high impact on the hearts of the participants.
The residents at the National Children’s Home, ages 7 to 18, need protection
from poverty, neglect, physical and sexual abuse. They also crave guidance and
counseling to improve their self-esteem and will to succeed. With the privilege
of HOPE Youth Corps, I can strive as my role as a mentor to these 80 children to
impact their lives on a personal level.
Getting their will cost money and to
make this opportunity a reality, I will need your support. Please let me know
if there is any way I can make money working around your house or office. I am capable
of yard work, baby sitting, car washing, etc.. (anything a healthy young lady
can do!) I will also be accepting donations. Please contact me if you’re
interested in providing work or donations, as well as any questions you may
have for me about the program itself. My contact information is:
