Studies show that one of the most
vulnerable periods of a prisoner’s life is immediately after release and during
the parole period. A positive housing
environment is often the most critical component to preventing recidivism and
encouraging and navigating a successful transition from incarceration to productive
citizenship.
The
Washington Conference Adventist Prison Ministries (APM) operates an active
teaching and preaching program within most prisons in Western Washington and is
thereby in an ideal position to screen potential Hope House candidates and
continue their spiritual development after release. Developing transitional housing centers is a
logical and needed extension of the church’s ministry to inmates – many of
which have become Seventh-day Adventists during their time in prison or have
some historical connection with the church.
