Several friends and I will be running in the Color Me Rad 5K Run/Walk next month on April 20th. Part of our registration fees go toward supporting the Special Olypics Virginia, but I'd like to do more.
I will be working very hard over the next month to make this extermely colorful event as beneficial to myself and others as I can. To start, I will be starting a new fitness regimen to whip my body and mind back into shape for the benefit of myself and a successful run with my team. I'll be usng the fitness application MapMyRun to track my progess.
My second goal, however, requires your help. I'm starting with a fundraising goal of $200 per week - but I'd love to see if I can top even my own expectations.
The Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Special Olympics Virginia is a year-round program of sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. We serve more than 11,000 athletes through seven regional offices and 30 area programs. We are one of 52 U.S. programs, and part of a global movement that serves more than 3.7 million athletes in more than 170 counties. Thanks to a statewide volunteer network of more than 20,000 and the support of generous partners throughout Virginia, athletes pay nothing to participate. And with nearly 2,000 events annually, including seven state-level competitions, we invite everyone to join us in our mission to open hearts and change minds about people with intellectual disabilities.
Please make a donation to support the VA Special Olympics and provide me with an even more tangible goal for this event. The more you donate, the harder I'll work! I'll even be posting updates on my progess going into the race and photos from during and after, where I'll be decorated in all colors of the rainbow!
Please donate whatever you can. We are all on harder times right now, but a few dollars can go a long way to helping another person find the confidence to succeed against even more adversity than some of us can ever imagine facing. Every contribution helps!
