Thank you, Jim Nelson and King 5 for coming to our gallery and covering a story about our son!
After almost 3 years in russian captivity, Roman is finally released. His mother Valeriia and father Roman are filled with joy after almost 3 years of tears and pain.
The Biletski family had to leave their home in the southern Kherson region of Ukraine in February 2022, after russian army invaded Ukraine, military tanks rolled through their farm town, russian army settled inside their neighbors’ homes, killed their sister-in-law and tortured 3-year-old nephew.
The oldest son, Roman decided to defend Ukraine and joined the Ukrainian military right away.
Roman became a soldier of the 36th Marine Brigade. Roman was taken into russian captivity in May 2022, while defending civilians in Mariupol.
Family was mistakenly notified of Roman's death through an official letter and award from the Ukrainian President. Valeriia went through excruciating pain and grief to learn two months later that her son is a prisoner of war and alive. Valeriia and her husband got further confirmation that Roman was alive in February 2023, when they saw a video of their son in a russian prison.
All this time Valeriia was carrying hope to see her son.
“It’s a dream to get my son out of captivity and to go back to Ukraine to meet him in our homeland,” Valeriia said in an interview with Cascade PBS in September.
Today, December 30th is the day when this dream became a reality. Roman's parents and 7 siblings could not dream of a better Christmas present.
The cost of medical bills and airline tickets for Valeriia to meet her son are high. Donations will also help bring Roman to the U.S. for rehabilitation and cover basic needs.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, brings the Biletski family reunion one step closer!
