The Importance of Our Herd

Our horses are undeniably at the heart of our mission. They are different breeds, with unique personalities, and varying backgrounds. But here, they are ALL helpers. They help our clients smile, help them reach their goals, and help them experience the joy of riding even in the face of life’s challenges. Whether it is a silly snort causing a chain reaction of laughter in the arena or the look of a calming gaze, every day our therapy horses bring happiness to countless children and adults with and without disabilities.

“Help Our Herd” is our 2016 Summer Appeal designed to help cover the costs associated with providing high quality care to our therapy animals. As a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, our horses need the assistance of caring individuals in our community and beyond. In an effort to support the horses that make our programs possible, we are launching a summer campaign to raise important dollars that directly help the PALS Herd.

Full annual care for just one therapy horse costs nearly $5,000!

Grains, hay, medical attention, and farrier services are just some of the costs associated with running such a unique therapy program. We ask that you consider giving a donation in support of the darlings that brings so many smiles, triumphs, and memories to the lives of our clients, volunteers and their families.

About People & Animal Learning Services (PALS)

PALS is a nonprofit therapeutic riding center located in Bloomington, IN. We provide therapeutic horseback riding & unmounted equine activities to people with disabilities, veterans, and at-risk youth. The therapeutic power of the horse can offer many physical, emotional and social benefits for a diverse population. As a PATH Intl. Premier-Accredited center, all programs are designed to be individualized and safe. Clinical therapy can be hard. At PALS, programs are engaging & FUN, allowing our participants to experience a number of positive benefits such as: increases in self-confidence, improvements in balance, and improved motor skills. Since its beginning in 2000, PALS has provided over 12,000 therapeutic program and service hours, various educational programs, and camp opportunities designed to improve the lives of hundreds of children, adults, and seniors in the South Central Indiana community ages three and up. As the only organization in south central Indiana to have received a Premiere Accreditation distinction from the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.), and the only Equine Assisted Activities and Therapy program in Monroe County or the surrounding vicinity, PALS has been instrumental in providing the highest quality EAA/T for clients from 11 counties across the state.
