Project Stark was initiated to explore the merger of advance computer technology and the development of a better oxygen generation device. Current oxygen generators or concentrators are a twentieth century technology. Current models of oxygen concentrators lack long battery life. Oxygen concentrators can weigh up to twenty pounds and mobility is awkward. Concentrators can only be used in carefully controlled environments. A patient could not use such a device in extreme conditions. Such as… Rain, High Temperatures and Dust, Dirt.
With Chemical Engineer Rebecca Horn, Electrical Engineer Judah Schad, Mechanical Engineer Kris Kaczmarek, and our advisor William Allyn, we are looking at the feasibility of building a concentrator that meets new requirements.
This project is important to me for two reasons. The first reason is that it is personal. On September 23,2011, I was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. I have to use a oxygen concentrator and I find them antiquated. Mobility is important to me and to control my disease I have to be able to exercise to maintain healthy lung function. Also mobility means the freedom to move about, and to be a full member of the community. A second reason is that there are 35 million people who suffer from COPD. I believe my research has a broader application for COPD treatment, and patients ability to live more productive lives.
