Eugene, OR has the largest per capita population of people experiencing homelessness in the United States. Winter is the hardest time of all to be homeless. In Eugene, OR, The Heart Pantry Project provides 24 hour access to items such as food, hats and gloves, blankets and handwarmers--these items and more protect the lives and health of our residents.
Our pantries are weather-resistant cabinets shaped like a heart. They provide 24 hour access to both food and other essentials. Pantries are placed in areas with the greatest need. Without them, our residents could walk more than a mile in the cold to reach services that are only available a few hours a day.
The need is so great that a pantry can be filled one day, only to be empty the next. We need your support to make sure this doesn’t happen. Last winter, the Heart Pantry Project distributed a ready supply of food, over 200 space blankets, hand warmers, and pairs of socks, and dozens of warm hats and pairs of gloves. This winter, we will be able to do even more, with your help.
