Greece Montessori School (GMS) offers an infant, toddler, preschool, kindergarten, and extended-day program to children and families in and surrounding Greece, NY, a suburb of Rochester, NY. For over 50 years, GMS has provided exceptional education to its students through a Montessori-based program that takes a holistic view of childhood development and learning.
In 2019, Greece Montessori School moved from a shared location with another school to a new building. The new site included a playground, but it required removal due to its poor condition.
The project goal is to create an outdoor space that integrates Montessori principles and nature-based play for students ranging in age from infancy through kindergarten.
The playground design features several activity zones that promote different types of play that will greatly enhance our outdoor space for the children.
The plan features a mix of DIY, affordable projects that parents and families can volunteer to help build and traditional playground equipment that will require additional funding and a phased installation plan.
