During this season of giving be a local hero and support fresh food for all!
Help St. Johns Farmers Market, a program of St. Johns
Main Street, reach its goal of raising $10,000 to support its Food Justice Programs.
We envision the St. Johns Farmers Market as a food justice
hub which:
- Reflects the rich diversity of our neighborhood
- Provides equitable access to healthy food
- Offers a space for positive community education
and engagement
- Supports our local food producers and entrepreneurs
The Food Justice program is working to make that vision a
reality through our Veggie Voucher and SNAP Match programs, in addition to
offering nutrition education through community partners.
Our Veggie Voucher
program distributes $10 vouchers for the market to low-income community members
through local social service organizations. This year we had 21 families
participate by working with Community of Hope, Swapnplay, and the North
Portland Health Center.
Our SNAP Match
program helps low-income shoppers stretch their food budget by matching SNAP
(food stamp) funds, dollar-for-dollar, up to $10; swipe your Oregon Trail card for $10 and get $20 in tokens to spend at
the market. During a one-month pilot of the program this October we saw the
number of SNAP shoppers more than double!
Now, we’re raising funds to be able to maintain and enhance
these programs, engaging new community partners and reaching more families in
need! We already have a $5,000 grant from Metro. Our goal is to match that and
raise a total of $10,000.
