Excess Vet Bill

Excess Vet Bill

From Denise Conn

I am starting this campaign to raise funds for my friend whose dogs were attacked by coyotes in AZ. Minnie died and Rosie is still recovering from her wounds. My friend incurred a Vet bill of approximately $30,000.

Update #4

Sorry about the double update. I am new at this fundraiser process. But here is another update. Carole will take Rosie to get her stitches out this Wednesday and pick up Minnie's ashes. This is a Bittersweet situation. Rosie 's physical wounds are healing but she hasn't been able to go on her daily walks with her Mom. However, Carole told me the other day that she will resume taking Rosie to the Dog Park to see her doggie friends and to share Rosie again. Sadly, Minnie will not be physically present, but you can be certain that her Minnie Spirit will be there!
I received the donations today and will share them with Carole. She is so grateful for all of your support and donations.

Update #3

by Denise Conn, Organizer

As I gave my little Jazzie a bath today, I kept thinking about my friend Carole, Minnie and Rosie. I reflected on how blessed I am to be able to give my pup a bath and how Carole cannot do that anymore with Minnie. I thought about how much Rosie has been sadly impacted by the loss of her sister Minnie. I thought about all of the people who have given Carole so much love and support over the past 2 weeks. I thought about how fortunate she is to have the support of her personal friendships and the support from all who have touched her life. All of you know that Carole loves her pets. You know how much they mean and have meant to her throughout her lifetime. I also thought about the generosity of those who have financially donated to this campaign and donated to Carole. I am thankful for those of you who have offered support period. Whether it has been financially or by following this campaign.

I am sharing what happened to Carole, Minnie and Rosie because of the impact it has had on my life. It is not my intention to keep reminding Carole and others about the horrific events of that day, but I feel the need to share my experience and the reason why I started this campaign for Carole. She did not expect me to begin this Gofund.me campaign, but she has appreciated everyone's generosity. I am unable to help Carole and her dogs financially, but I might be able to help her through the donations of others. THANK YOU everyone from the bottom of my heart for your generosity with donations to help relieve some of the financial burden of Carole's vet bills.

My sister-in-law Kathleen posted something profound on Facebook the other day that got me thinking. She posted her feelings about how she has lost her beloved pet to cancer but couldn't imagine losing a pet to such a horrific attack by a coyote. She also gave a generous donation to support me with this campaign for Carole. Thank you, Kathleen. for your caring words and empathy for my friend Carole.

In the beginning stages of preparing this campaign, I asked a friend to review my narrative because I wanted people to understand why I wanted to do this campaign. I also said that if she would like to donate, even $5.00 that it would be appreciated. I was told, "don't worry about how I am or if I will be donating, it's not your business". As hurtful as that statement was, it made me realize that no one has to donate to this cause. It is the heart of a person that donates to this cause.

I was with Carole on numerous occasions while she went to the vet in the middle of the night to be with Minnie or when she spoke with the vet on the phone about what medical treatment might help Minnie survive her injuries. Watching Carole suffer with all of her emotions through her decisions to help her "beloved pet" tore at my heart. Many will say, "it's just a dog" but the pet is a part of someone's heart. Thank you to my friends and family who supported me through the Fundraising donations with Fundly.com as well as for your emotional support. Believe me, I needed it.

From the time Carole frantically knocked on my door asking if I had seen Rosie and screaming that Minnie had been taken by a coyote, my life was impacted and changed. I remember helping search for Rosie and wondered how horrific it was for Minnie that my heart hurt just thinking about everything that was happening. Then, I saw our friend and neighbor Brenda with Minnie in her car waiting for Carole to bring Rosie home. A neighbor had found Rosie and took her to his house where she was safe. Carole told me that Brenda helped save Minnie's life. Brenda saw Carole running down the street screaming for help. Brenda had been driving home from her friend's house when she saw Carole and immediately stopped her car. They cornered the coyote and saved Minnie's life. Brenda took Carole and Minnie to the Critical Vet Hospital and stayed with her until the medical team took over. I waited with Rosie at home waiting to hear from Carole. Carole and Brenda came home from an exhausting day in hopes that Minnie would pull through. Carole took Rosie tightly in her arms and took her home to safety. Sadly, Minnie passed away from her injuries about 3 days later on her 10th birthday.

As I shared in my earlier update, Rosie was attacked by a coyote a few days later. She was right by Carole's side, harnessed and leashed. The coyote came up from behind them and grabbed Rosie in an attempt to snatch her from Carole. Again, Carole fought to save Rosie's life. A neighbor heard Carole screaming and helped her scare the coyote away. Rosie was injured in the struggle. She was taken to the same hospital as Minnie and was treated for her injuries. She is now recovering from her wounds and will get her stitches out this Wednesday. I can't imagine having a coyote come close to my ankle and try to take my pet. Carole would not allow that predator to take her other "beloved pet". Carole told me later that she believed the protection was from "God's Hand". I believe.

Unfortunately, Carole no longer walks Rosie in the neighborhood due to the possibility of another coyote attack. Carole intends to meet with her Dog Park friends in the near future with Rosie by her side. We have shared the tragedy with others and warned them to be cautious and watch out for coyotes.

Thank you again for allowing me to share my experience and I hope that there is a better understanding as to why I wanted to start this campaign for my friend and her pets. Carole has been wonderful to me and my pets. She was supportive when I lost my pet Maddie to cancer, and she loves my Jazzie. You will never forget your Minnie, but remember you are blessed by God to still have your Rosie with you.
