Thank you, again. I am able to lower the goal another $185!! A further update: I am able to think much more clearly about the future since we've raised ~$4,500. I contact my landord rental property this week, and they had submitted a summons and complaint. However, they would rather work with me than the court. So I'll keep folks updated on that. Godspeed!
Hi there beautiful people –
My name is Rachel/Ranch (they/them/theirs pronouns plz). I live in Lansing, Michigan, on stolen Anishinaabeg Land. Many kind people have told me to let them know if I need help: and I need help.

Budget: (in order of importance to me)
1. $3,200 for rent payback
2. $1,500 in immediate expenses (prescriptions, vet, etc)
3. $2,000+ in vehicle repairs (wheels+tires, 2 axles, & oil leak)
4. $200–300 for correspondence with people locked up
5. $2,000–4,500 in pressing debt, but not as essential as listed above
The story:
I lost my job at Strange Matter due to Covid-19. Since then, I’ve started a small business: Asylum Center. Asylum Center is a peer-based herbal practice and apothecary. It’s fluid, as is life.
My car breaking down at the beginning of the year was the tipping point for me needing to do a public fundraiser. I haven’t been able to pay rent since October, and a nonprofit is maybe, potentially coming through to provide rent relief for me. For the interim, I would feel significantly more stable, calm, and less stressed if I knew I could provide rent upon need and/or of facing eviction. My current landlords have been following the legal protocol to evict me if needed. With this being said, if I fundraise excess money and/or if this nonprofit comes through, all the additional funds will go towards the Lansing Tenants Union for immediate rent relief.
Non-financial ways to support me:
+ sharing and promoting this within your networks. especially making personal requests to those particularly who have a lot to share & are joyful givers!
+ join my business email list or social media for further ways to support & be in the loop (at the bottom of the homepage on Asylum Center)
+ have fun w helping me fundraise!! do a live set of music or poetry or tarot, sell some of your beautiful art or craft.
+ messages of encouragement and support & any skills or gifts that are not financial but you think would help
+ job leads: looking for 15-30hr/week. ideally a remote position in visual communication/digital media; clerical work; or community health and/or advocacy. part-time jobs with health insurance is a major bonus.
+ my bridge card is currently active so i have ample access to groceries! meals are welcome though, all but eggplant please.
+ audio pieces: albums, playlists, dj sets, spoken word, meditations, etc for walks and chores and mindfulness. I love learning context(s) to the pieces as well.

Thank you for all the care & support!
Love,
Ranch
