Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown delivered standout efforts to help the Boston Celtics hold off a spirited Dallas Mavericks rally, winning 106-99 in Game 3 of the NBA Finals and taking a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Tatum Stars as Celtics Go 3-0 Up Against Mavericks
Tatum scored 31 points and Brown added 30, demonstrating their explosive offensive abilities. The Celtics had a sizable advantage, 91-70, early in the fourth quarter. The Mavericks, led by Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic, rallied, cutting the deficit to one point with three and a half minutes left. Despite their attempts, Dallas was unable to make the comeback.
Irving led the game with 35 points, while Doncic added 27 before fouling out with little over four minutes remaining.
Boston is just one win away from winning its 18th NBA title and first since 2008. Game four is slated for Saturday at 01:30 BST.
"We are not relaxing or anything like that," Tatum remarked. "You know, not even focusing on winning or whatever. However long it takes, that's our motto. However long it takes, that's what it's going to take. Nobody is not trying to relax at all."
Brown agreed with his fellow player: "That was a big-time win for us, and I'm proud of how we played. They had some momentum, but we kept our poise. We made timely baskets. We got some good shots going in, and we found a way to win."
The Mavericks have a huge hurdle, as no club in NBA history has ever recovered from a 3-0 hole to win a postseason series. "It's not over till it's over," Doncic said. "We've just got to believe. Like I always say, it's first to four. We're going to stay together. We lose together, we win together."
