It is estimated that between
1.2 and 5% of all US prisoners are innocent of the crime they have been
convicted of that is approximately 100,000 people. 1,320 people have in executed
in the United States, and of that 1,320 people 70 have been exonerated before they
were executed. Legal representation in America, is not always at its finest. The
accused cannot always afford to defend themselves in a way they deserve to be.
Public Defenders are often too busy with their political life and other things
to even really care. That’s where we come into play, if we could even help just
one person to be represented properly, then that is what we should do. We are
saving lives, and standing up for the people who were given the short end of
the stick. Lawyers are expensive, the average lawyer makes over $100,000 a year
and charges $150 an hour. Per case criminal defense lawyers average the cost of
$5,000 - $10,000, and for more
serious felony charges and life sentences, the client can be charged upwards
near $25,000. Proper representation is desperately needed, but with skyscraper
rates like these, it seems as if only the privileged could afford it. Join
me in the fight for better representation for low income families and families
who simply cannot afford a good lawyer.
