My baby brother (Babybird), Mikie, was in a motorcycle accident on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, due to a road hazard near his home in Alabama.
His injuries include a concussion, shattered ankle bones and severely broken tibia/fibula (see photo above). He had emergency reconstructive surgery that required two plates and many screws to realign and stabilize the broken bones.
Mikie will be in a cast and have very restricted mobility for a long time. He cannot put any pressure on his foot for 3 months. The doctor reports that recovery will take 6–9 months, after which Mikie may not be able to move his ankle or walk without a limp. The medical bills will be extensive. He has no health insurance.
Mikie’s sweet wife, Lucia, is working and attending college. She is also pregnant with their first child, due in July. They are having a baby girl, London Elizabeth.
Mikie and Lucia have been working very hard to prepare for the arrival of baby London. Mikie recently recieved a promotion at his job where he is a chef, but will not be able to return to work until he has recovered.
We have a loving and supportive family who will do any and all to help one another. They are lucky to currently live near Lucia’s family who can stop by to help let their dogs out, grocery shopping/cooking, hugs and more. Our mother flew down to Alabama on the 21st from ours/theirs hometown, outside of Troy, New York to help for a week. She has been non-stop in her efforts to help prepare them for the long recovery ahead. I will fly down to help as soon as I can.
Unfortunately, this accident will affect Mike and Lucia greatly in ways that we are not able to compensate for. Any monetary donations will be tremendously appreciated and used appropriately.
To anyone kind enough to help Mikie, Lucia and baby, we more than understand that times are tough for many; thank you for any donation amount—every bit counts.
XOXOXO
Thank you!

And, to answer your question, the tattoo on Mikie's neck reads, "This love never dies." He had it done for Lucia <3
