In honor of the life
of Andrew Monroe, the Annual
Andrew Monroe Memorial Scholarship Fund was established.
Andrew's
love of soccer encouraged us to create this fund to encourage students to excel
in both athletics and academics by
offering scholarship opportunities to benefit of senior soccer in Sarasota, County, Florida.
The proceeds
from the event also goes toward the Andrew
Monroe Memorial Scholarship Fund through the
Sarasota Community Foundation. The scholarship is open for all county
soccer players (girls and boys) through an essay submission process.
Andrew was killed in a tragic automobile accident March 13, 2011
that killed 4 students in one vehicle.
His LOVE for
Soccer prompted us to fund scholarships in his name.
If anyone ever
cared, really cared for someone else it would have to be Andrew E.
Monroe. He was a warm hearted and well liked individual, and these
wonderful traits came easily to him because he was such a sociable and amiable
person, someone who was always making certain that those around him had
whatever they needed. He was dependable, loyal and
trustworthy. He radiated good fellowship.
Andrew was a
talkative person who was tactful at all times but typically said what he meant.
His friends said he pretty much could talk to anyone about
anything. Andrew was born in Sarasota Memorial Hospital in
Sarasota, Florida. He was the son of Sam and Stacey Monroe. Andrew was
raised in Sarasota, Florida. During his childhood he learned to be
reliable and respectful. Andrew was an obedient child who wanted to win
the favor of others. He found it easy to show sympathy and to perform
kind acts for others. These admirable qualities would become a part of
Andrew’s personality throughout his life. Andrew was raised with two
siblings. He had two brothers, Eric and Aaron. Andrew and his
brothers had the typical rivalries while growing up, but they cared deeply for
one another.
Andrew was always
enthusiastic about new adventures. Although he had an exacting nature, Andrew
was always tactful. One thing Andrew will certainly be remembered for is
that, when he got up in the mornings, he was ready and raring to go. As a
young boy Andrew was an active child. He took part in Soccer, Boys Scouts
and was a member of the RHS JROTC program. In his spare time he liked to
hang out.
Andrew graduated
25th of 575 in his class of 2010 and he
will be remembered for his speed on the field and as an awesome goalkeeper
. He was State and Regionally certified to train goalkeepers and he was a
soccer referee for both Club and High School Soccer.
Andrew was a
Freshman at Florida Gulf Coast University for the fall of 2010. He
was working on an Athletic Training Degree.
Andrew seized
every moment, He lived life to the fullest. He soared through the
air in a dive as he soared through his short life.
He had an that would brighten up the room.”
