Fellow World Changer,
I have been
blessed with the opportunity to travel with a group of twenty other students
and leaders to the country of Uganda. My group will be putting on a camp for
children who are either orphaned or in extreme circumstances. At this camp we
will be equipping the children with the skills and encouragement needed to
break away from the corruption their culture fully embraces.
Unlike the way it is in America, when
Ugandans try to make something of themselves they are heavily discouraged.
Children in the slums are born into a society that tells them they will never
amount to anything. They were trash, are trash, and will forever be looked down
on as such. Most children are accepting of this label because is it what their
society has taught them.
This brings me to the theme of our camp,
identity. We will teach them their true worth which is inimitable and beyond
comparison. We will teach them skills that will prepare them to be leaders and
builders of a better country. We will help them learn that regardless of their
background they can make a difference to all of the people around them.
Before I can start
making a difference in Uganda I have to raise the funds to leave the country. The
total amount for the mission trip is 5,000 dollars. I have graciously received many
contributions that total to a little over half of the overall cost. I plan to raise money beyond the five grand and bring multitudes of supplies on my journey. If you are reading this post it is because you are as passionate about changing the world as I am and together
we will inspire a new generation of change in Uganda.
Thank you for being the difference,
Janelle Stephens
