Update #3

Let me start by thanking those of you who were kind enough to make a donation to this worthy cause. You are greatly appreciated. We still have much work to do, but we need your help. Time is running out. Can we count on you? It's not the size of the donation that's important, it's the act itself.

Mark 12:41-44 New International Version (NIV)
The Widow’s Offering

41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.

43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

More Info

About a month ago there was a knock at the door of the home of Phyllis Compton.  To her surprise, there was a gentleman standing there with a FOR SALE sign to be placed in her yard.  Not understanding what was going on, she called her landlord and was told he put the house up for sale because he wants to get out of the business and that prospective investors would be stopping by to look at the house. The landlord assured Phyllis that the property would continue as a rental property, but he could not guarantee the new owner would keep her rent the same.  During the next couple of weeks that followed, a parade of potential investors came by to look at the house.  During their visit, many of these investors communicated their disappointment in the condition of the house to Phyllis and asked if any improvements or updates had been done to the house while under the current ownership.  The answer was no.  A couple of days later there was a knock at the door.  This time it was a gentleman delivering a stack of papers that disclosed the property was in foreclosure along with other properties owned by Phyllis' landlord.  This is why he is trying to sell so quickly, not because he wants out of the business as he stated.  Apparently, none of the investors that toured the house we're interested in buying it, because, on June 1, 2020, the landlord called Phyllis to make her aware that he had a buyer.  Phyllis was told by the landlord during this conversation that the buyer was a doctor who was buying the house as a tax write off so she doesn't have to worry about moving and that the buyer would be contacting her soon.  The new owner showed up at the house on June 6th and to her surprise, not only was he, not a doctor, but he spoke limited English and wants to move him and his family into the house within 30 days.  Phyllis has paid the same amount in rent since she moved into the house in the late '80s, which is unheard of.  She is also on a very limited income and not able to work since suffering a stroke in 2011.  We are hoping to raise enough to get her into another home as soon as possible and help cover the difference in the rent increase.  This has been an extremely stressful ordeal for Phyllis and her family, please consider giving to this worthy cause.

Update #2

Hi folks,

I completely understand that many crowdfunding campaigns are questionable, but Phyllis Compton really needs our help. She is getting closer and closer to the date she must vacate her home of over 30 years, so let us rally behind her and prove we are people of compassion and humanity.

Charles de Lint said, “I don't want to live in the kind of world where we don't look out for each other. Not just the people that are close to us, but anybody who needs a helping hand. I can’t change the way anybody else thinks, or what they choose to do, but I can do my bit.”
I am doing my bit; will you join me? No donation is too small.

Peace and Blessings
